Skinks are mostly ground-dwellers, but this one is a committed climber, usually seen clinging to a trunk and watching for insects. The vivid green colouring varies across its huge island range, and some populations have dark speckles or brown back ends.
Its range spans so many islands that it is divided into several subspecies. The photograph here, from Palau in Micronesia, shows one of them.
