Cunningham’s skink is a large, dark, heavily keeled skink that basks on rocks near the crevices it retreats into. Colour varies a lot, from nearly black to brown with pale spots or orange flanks.
Like the gidgee skink, it lives in family groups. Genetic studies have found that parents and their offspring of several ages often share the same rock crevices, a sophisticated piece of social behaviour for a lizard.
